As seasoned parents, through adoption and foster care, they have had to personally navigate difficulties and trials with children who have come from hard places. But their personal experience and valuable insight into helping children heal, as well as understanding trauma and learning how to respond differently, has helped to transform the lives of thousands of parents. We are excited to share a throwback interview with them today on The Honestly Adoption Podcast!

It begins with us, as caregivers, anticipating that this time of the year can be deeply wounding to our children. While our children often build up expectations like tall towers, in their minds and hearts, we have to be ready as a soft place for them to land if, or when, this tower crashes to the ground and their heart is broken. We are fortunate to know amazing therapists like Brooke Randolph, LMHC, who provide valuable insight into this hard road we may find ourselves traveling!

There's no question that loss is a major storyline of the foster and adoption journey. Children lose their first families, their first homes, and their sense of normal and familiar. But equally, they often lose their identity, connection to who they are, and subsequently, their purpose. It's crucial that caregivers keep a finger on this pulse and learn how to respond with compassion and understanding.

That's why we're excited to welcome Tina Bauer to the show. Her perspective, insight, and firsthand experience in the foster care system, and later being adopted from foster care, is a priceless resource for parents.

We believe deeply in racial equality and listening to and learning from black voices who are illuminating the way for justice and understanding. As we continue to amplify and highlight black voices, we are pleased to share one of our favorite interviews on the podcast. Are you a transracial adoptive family, foster family or mixed race family? Are you a person with fantastic curly hair? Whoever you are and whatever type of hair you have, you will love Janine Beachy. She was a true delight to interview.

Janine talked with us about the importance of haircare in the Black community, why we should teach our daughters to set boundaries around others touching their hair and how her curly hair journey led to becoming a resource for transracial adoptive families. We think you will love her as much as we do!

We encourage you to listen in as well as follow her on Instagram: @life_with_curlz
